Animations of the tympanic membrane motion at different frequencies.
The three animantions in figure 1 show tympanic membrane motion at respectively 1 kHz, 7 kHz and 16 kHz. Note that the displacements are highly enlarged in the z-direction. The displacement patterns were calculated in a finite element model in Comsol, in which the tympanic membrane was modeled as a visco-elastic material; more details about the modeling will be published soon.
