The Neurogenomics research group is associated to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the VIB-UAntwerp Center for Molecular Neurology.
The group focusses on understanding the genetic and molecular basis of (pediatric onset) epilepsies, including developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEE). The team works from bed (deep phenotyping of patients) to bench (genetic diagnosis and functional characterization) and back to bedside (therapeutic strategies).
Prof. dr. Sarah Weckhuysen is also active as neurologist and epileptologist in the epilepsy clinic of the University Hospital of Antwerp.
