The Laboratory of Neuromuscular Pathology is part of the Translational Neurosciences department of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Institute Born-Bunge.
The group focusses on unravelling the molecular genetics and pathophysiology of various inherited neuromuscular disorders, most notably Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and related disorders. In addition, the laboratory has a large expertise in the (immune)histopathological analysis of skeletal muscle and peripheral nerve tissue. The team closely collaborates with the Peripheral Neuropathies group of Prof. dr. Vincent Timmerman.
Prof. dr. Jonathan Baets is also active as neurologist and neuromuscular specialist at the University Hospital of Antwerp and is medical coordinator of the Neuromuscular Reference Center.
