Quality assurance

At the University of Antwerp we ensure the quality of our programmes. Every programme goes through a quality assurance cycle of six years.

In year three, we review the quality assurance of the programme during the internal process monitoring and control. In the spring of 2017 this was done for the Master Epidemiology.

Year six concludes the cycle with a peer review. The study programme self-reflects and has discussions with internal and external experts and an independent student. 

On 27 October 2020 a peer review team visited the Master Epidemiology and confirmed confidence in the programme. 

Strengths of the programme

The programme is supported by a passionate, dedicated and caring programme team, a team with a wide range of expertise. In addition, the programme is valued for its strong and specific profile, unique in Flanders. The programme is still working on aligning its bridging and preparatory programmes with the master's programme. The programme has a strong and diverse intake; this also creates an inspiring, international classroom. Despite the diverse intake, the program manages to achieve a strong student success rate.

The study programme explicitly focuses on student-centered and competence-oriented education. The students are continuously stimulated in the programme with activating and interactive methods, and receive very personal guidance in the form of an academic advisor. The competence-oriented attitude of the study program is a strength, and of great added value to a multidisciplinary programme such as the master in epidemiology. This competence-oriented attitude will be even more evident when the programme will soon have drawn up various learning pathways.

The start-up for a strong alumni organization had been initialized and the involvement of the professional field is also fully investigated by the programme, e.g. by setting up a sounding board group. The programme is taking a close look at the planned curriculum change and is examining the possibilities of blended learning.
