Transformation Talks
Lectures by Eva Storgaard, Bart Hollanders & Nicolas Petillon
3 December 2024 - 18:30
Stadscampus, s.C.1.03, Prinsstraat 13 – Antwerpen
3 lectures of 20 minutes:
- The town hall of Mortsel
by Bart Hollanders
Bart will present the work of Eagles of Architecture with a specific focus on the project for the town hall of Mortsel. Drawing, and redrawing is essential in their design practice, in order to gain deeper insights into architectural forms, structures, and historical references. Eagles of Architecture draws and builds projects out of a desire to play rather than an entrepreneurial spirit.
- The design competition for new event infrastructure
by Nicolas Petillon
Nicolas will present his insights on the recent design competition for the new event infrastructure at Fort 6 on Campus Drie Eiken for the students of the University of Antwerp. As an answer to the complexities of creating spaces that serve modern public functions within historically layered sites, he will discuss how his team approached the challenge, providing functional spaces with a respect for the unique heritage and character of the former military fort.
- The presentation of ONTO#7 - Interiors revisited
by Eva Storgaard
The development of transformation strategies for modernist patrimony is needed. At this point in time, modernist dwellings – especially their interiors – are under pressure as they often are subject to conversion, repurposing – or demolition. Adequate alterations, starting at the level of design interventions, demand knowledge and acknowledgement of the various qualities and properties of modernist architecture. For six years, the master studio interior architecture of the Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp has been addressing this problem by exploring the underlying visions, approaches, and characteristics of modernism. The lecture gives an insight into the teaching method of this design studio, as synthesized in the publication ONTO#7.
